Very special announcement. Matt is now part of the club. You don’t know what a ThinkPad is until you have earned yourself one. Can’t wait to get my second ThinkPad later in Fall. I’m so in love*, haha.
* and I’m ready to report about hating it more and more, haha. Lot of people say Lenovo is destroying the ThinkPad franchise with every new product they release… I don’t think so… but we’ll see!
I bought me some new computer stuff. I wanted best price/performance relations, and in the end I spent 180 Euro on a new case (as shown in the picture above, it’s a Zalman Z9Plus), a new power supply (fits to the case and i7 ready, for instance), a new hard drive (500GB Samsung Eco Green) and I doubled my very poor 2GB RAM up to 4GB.
I really love the new case because it has some very nice cooling abilities; the inside temperature is always 20-25°C … sometimes lower than my room temperature! And it’s rather silent, only the video card is a shrieking bitch.
The next step will be the replacement of the video card. I just finished some hours of researching the best for the minimal budget and I decided to get a Nvidia GT 430 for around 65 Euro. My actual video card is a Nvidia 6600 GT so the GT 430 will be a huge step forward because it supports the newest drivers and also the CUDA technology which will speed up some of my video software.
All together this hardware upgrade will cost me around 245 Euro with an estimated performance-boost of around +40%. I really hope I don’t need any further upgrades until my birthday. I’m planning to get a new 24” widescreen monitor for editing and use the old one for preview stuff. I could really need a paid job, haha.
